Red Claw 2012 pinot noir (Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia)

Yabby Lake VineyardI had the opportunity to savour this wine in the beautiful surrounds of the Yabby Lake vineyard with good friends and fine food. The optimal conditions to sample a wine.

Quite lifted aromas of red berries and cherry. Vibrant deep crimson colour. For a second label, the plate is rich with nothing held back. It displays a variety of red berries and cherry flavours beautifully wrapped in gentle fine tannins with some good supporting acid. The finish is smooth with adequate length and a touch of smokey oak and spice. The richness and flavours complemented my duck curry really well. On the Yabby Lake website they say that their Red Claw wines are not wines to brood or mull over, well maybe not, but it is a perfect luncheon wine, even for a long, slow lunch at a reasonable price. They also state that these are not wines to gather dust on a shelf and I can heartily agree. Far too delicious to leave anywhere, including a cellar, gathering dust! Drink now or over the next couple of years.

Purchased at the Yabby Lake cellar door restaurant. Both the wine and the restaurant are recommend.
